A couple of hours ago, I attended a concert with my dearest hubby.
I have not gone to Esplanade for a concert for like ages. I think the last time I went was 4 years ago, when I was still working with Citibank.
Anyway, the concert is organised jointly by the Rotary Club I belong to and Sailability Singapore to raise funds for the disabled. Frankly, I am not too into concerts – especially a concert by the name of ‘Sgt Pepper’. That is beside the point… As this is a charity concert… and I was there to support my club and the charity.
And guess what, I am so happy I went for it… as I definitely got a lot more than what I paid for…
When I was sitting there listening to all these amazing musicians showcasing their talents… some professionals, some amateurs… one thing stood out… their passion.
Their passion for their music… simply took my breath away.
When they sing, or they play their musical instrument of choice, you can just feel their passion through their music. Or for some, it is written evidently on their facial expressions. They so clearly enjoy expressing themselves through their music. And because of that passion, I fell in love with them instantly.
And it struck me that sometimes, as we busy ourselves in our career, or our day-to-day lives, we simply lose our passion in life, or for life.
One of the questions that we ask all our clients when they sign up is, “What are you passionate about?” And, quite a number of people would be dumbfounded.
When we lose our passion, we become listless. The lights go out from our eyes. We are not truly alive; we merely exist. And we probably do not come across as too attractive to most people.
I am sure deep inside each and every one of us, there is something that we are truly passionate and crazy about. It is just buried under the many layers of work, societal expectations, cultural expectations etc.
For some of us, it might be music. For others it might be travelling. Or even community service.
What is your passion? What keeps you awake at night? What gives you an instant surge of energy? What wakes you up in the morning? What can you not live without?
For me. It is the passion to inspire. To make a difference in people’s lives – be it through my writing or my speaking engagements. To know that I have the ability to touch someone else’s life, and the power of creating a ripple effect that would make a long-lasting change, that gives me immense satisfaction. 🙂
What is your passion?
If you cannot remember. Or if you don’t know. Maybe today is the day to rediscover your passion once more!
