Woohoo! :) They got married!

April 30th, 2007 by Violet

Dear Readers,

Remember the story of Mr. Nice and Ms Natural?

http://violetlim.com/2006/09/13/mr-nice-ms-natural/

Yeah, they got married end of last year! We just found out last week, when Mr. Nice emailed us to introduce his friend to our service!

How amazing is that? That totally made my day, after a so-so week. :)

So the moral of the story? Always be positive, and be open-minded. You never know what will happen next!

If you do not hear from me again today…

Happy Labour Day! And enjoy the day off! :)

Sincerely,

Violet

Thursday Thirteen #4: 13 items you can find in a modern-day matchmaker’s handbag!

April 19th, 2007 by Violet

Thought of doing something different this week. :)

Ever wondered what you will find in a modern-day matchmaker’s handbag?

Rummaged through my bag, and these are the items I found. :)

1. Wallet. Looks like it’s going to burst at its seams. Have it for 3 years now I think. Time to get a new one. Problem is, I have not find one that I truly like.

2. Phone #1. This has my Malaysia SIM card. Not all my contacts in KL has my Singapore number, and since I travel often between the 2 countries, I have my KL phone switched on too.

s015.jpg

3. What does this look like? Yes… it’s a personal alarm. My mum-in-law gave it to me. :)

s010.jpg

4. I am not sure what you call this actually. Hair band? Basically I use this to tie up my hair. Can’t stand my hair falling all over my face while I am working.

s011.jpg

5. Lip gloss. I don’t use this very often frankly. But it’s good to have when my lips are chapped sitting too long in an air-conditioned room.

s013.jpg

6. Phone #2. This is my Singapore phone. See the trinklet hanging on to it? That’s a Christmas gift from one of my fellow cupids. :)

s014.jpg

7. Tissue pack. My very out-of-shape tissue pack from Watsons. :)

s017.jpg

8. Those of you based in Singapore would know this one. With the new password authentication scheme implemented by the banks, we now have to carry these tokens. You can also see my thumbdrive on the far left, as well as the keychain that’s holding all of these together. The keychain is a Christmas gifts from another one of my fellow ‘cupids’ at Lunch Actually. :)

s024.jpg

9. My Ipod Shuffle! :) Christmas gift from hubby 2 years ago! :) Comes in very handy when I just want to listen to some classical music to relax…

s028.jpg

10. My LOVE notebook… is this where all the matchmaking secrets are kept? :) That’s for me to know, and for you to find out! ;)

s029.jpg

11. My Blackberry. I love this. With pushmail, I can always stay in touch. I am no longer a slave to my laptop! Yay!

s030.jpg

12. My namecard holder. My best friend Tsiao Yi gave this to me when I first started Lunch Actually as a show of support. In case you are trying to read the words on the case, it says, “Nothing succeeds like success. -Alexander Dumas” :)

s038.jpg

13. And last but not least, this is the pink little gadget, my IXUS, birthday present from my daddy and mummy, that took all the photos shown above. :) I can never leave home without it… now with Babe, I want to be able to capture every cute little moment. :)

Quick Updates 18 Apr 2007

April 18th, 2007 by Violet

Dearest readers,

How are you? Hope you have had a great week so far!

These 2 weeks have been absolutely crazy for me. Many appointments, lots of emails to clear, and to top it all up, I was down with the flu.

Anyway, just some quick updates. :)

I know I have not written about my babe for the longest time. As this blog is about dating, I did not want to bore some of you to bits with my “mummy talk”. :) But thought I will just share this piece of news with you. Babe has recently turned 5 months old, and we just witnessed his first crawl today! Hubby and I are absolutely delighted. :) This means that we have to child-proof the house real soon. :)

I have been very honoured to be featured by Doris from Home Office Women on her blog. :) Thank you Doris! You can read about it here.

That’s about it for now. Will be updating again real soon.

Have a great week ahead! :)

Sincerely, Violet

Just Plain True Love…

April 10th, 2007 by Violet

Was surfing the net today, and came across this, a STOMP special collection of love messages.

Was flipping through the many Valentine’s Day messages, and out of the many messages, this one really stood out…

David Woon & Lynn Tay

He says: “She is not divinely beautiful; she’s not exceptionally intelligent; she’s not heroically noble; she’s not angelically nice; and she’s definitely not the most fun person one would like to be with, but she’s completely, eternally mine - my forever Valentine. Because on Feb 10, 2001, I made the commitment to love and honour her for the rest of my life. It’s as simple as that; nothing fanciful, nothing earth-shattering, just plain True Love.”

And with the message, he attached a photo of them with their little baby. :)

I don’t know why, but his message really touched me.

I have many friends who tell me that when they are looking for their special someone, he/she must fulfill certain criteria. Even myself, I had my little 3 golden rules. He must be this, or she must be that. If he is not this tall, I would not be interested. Or if she is not pretty, then it is a complete waste of my time.

His message is so different, as he is saying that he does not expect her to be “all that”. He actually accepts that she is not that pretty, not that smart, not that noble, and sometimes she’s even not that nice.

Wouldn’t it be nice to believe that true love is when the looks are gone, when the passion simmers, when the novelty is no more, when tempers occasionally flare, when life sets into a routine or when both of you are stripped of all pretences and niceties, you still find the courage to love on… because you have made that commitment to love and cherish him/her for the rest of your life.

Till death do us part…

April 4th, 2007 by Violet

Had the weirdest conversation with the significant other the other day.

“Hey, if anything happen to me (touch wood), you must remarry ok?”

He looked at me with a puzzled look.

“Hey, I am serious… you better make sure she is a good mother, so she will look after our darling son!”

Erm, sounds quite morbid, the entire conversation, I know. And frankly, I am also quite surprised that we were having such a conversation. The younger me would have never said something like that. I cannot imagine another woman being married to my husband, even if I am no longer around.

He kept quiet.

The significant other then said…

“You too… if anything happens to me, find a good man. A good father.”

“A good husband,” he added.

And suddenly, my eyes were brimming with tears.

I blinked back my tears, but the emotions were just too overwhelming.

“Ok,” I said… but actually in my mind, I remembered this elderly English lady in her 70s whom I visited weekly during my boarding school days.

Her husband died when she was about 50 years old. And even though she has many male friends, and some who expressed interest and asked for her hand, she never remarried.

Out of curiosity, I asked her, “But why? Don’t you ever feel lonely?”

She said, “My dear, my husband has given me so much love… and his love will last me for this life time…”

.

.

.

And maybe that is why, when I said my wedding vows 1.5 years ago… I did not say… “Till death do us part”.

Instead I said,

“I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward and for all eternity.”

I know…

I am a romantic.
